Joy Aplin has always made music an important part of her life. She grew up singing in church choir, participated in high school chorus for 3 years, sang with the Troy State Collegiate singers for 3 years and sang with several other church choirs over the years. One day she answered an advertisement in the Daily News for free music lessons from the Sugar Beach Chorus, and heard barbershop music performed by ladies for the first time. She fell in love with the barbershop style and was so mesmerized by the close harmony that she knew she would audition as many times as they would allow until she was accepted into this awesome group. She passed her audition and performed with a combined men and ladies chorus during Christmas season for the first time in 1999. She has been hooked ever since!
In addition to performing with the chorus since 1999, Joy has also performed with 3 different quartets. She views it an honor and privilege to learn and perform with this amazing group of ladies—and she is still hooked on Barbershop!
